Recess Rumble

Recess Rumble is a two week project by Daniel Bahamon and Santiago Silva. Here you will be able to read everything with regards to this project, we took the time to document every step of the way.

To start you might want to read the Game Proposal where we define the project and our goals.

The Documentation

Before starting, we had several documents where we explain all of our goals and ideas on how to implement them.

The Math......

Here is a small representation of how the math works..

This is one of the earlier versions of the game, and as you can see, it has Daniel's art! can you see the difference?

The Bully

The Nerd

The Sports Guy

The AI

The AI for this game was a new concept by Daniel Bahamon, the idea was to make the AI player as "Human" as possible, therefore the idea behind it is to make him play on a virtual keyboard, so he can't just punch when he wants, he is limited to the virtual control. Here is a more in-depth explanation...

The Timeline

Here is an overview of the progress we made on the game...

Almost There.....

In this version you can see almost all the little features working, but there is obviously a lot of art missing, at this point Santiago already had all the images, but we hadn't compiled them together.

The Final Game

This is the final Version of our Project:

Top Submission on Newgrounds!!

Only a couple of days after finishing the game, we published the game on the popular website: newgrounds.com, and we where surprised with very positive reviews. Obviously a lot of people didn't like some of the features, but overall they seemed to have enjoyed it. And as a reward we got the game to be showcased on the front page of the web site for one day! And received over 14,000 views, here is a screeshot of that:

Conclusions.......

This is definitely a project I will always be proud of, not only did I get to experience the process of making a game, but I learned a lot about teamwork and the creative process. But I must admit that what I am most proud of is the results that we got from this game.

Like I mentioned at the beginning, the target audience for this project was boys aged 10-12, and the most rewarding moment of this project came on the day that Santiago and I presented this game to the school. We got the chance to see many kids within our target range, sit down and enjoy the game, they really loved it, our booth was constantly crowded by them wanting to play the game, and that is honestly why I have decided to become a Game Developer, seeing other people get entertained by my work is really rewarding for me.

WOW!!!

It's been two years since we finished this project, but today for no particular reason I decided to search google for Recess Rumble(I wanted to get to the newgrounds page), but I didn't find it, I found something very interesting and quite rewarding! Every single link that appeared on google was a link to a web site that had embeded the game into their site, and not only was the first page full, I went as far as 24 pages and still found links to web sites with the game.

I know some might be thinking that I should be mad because they stole my game and didn't give me credit, but honestly I felt completely different, I believe that the greatest compliment an artist can get is when someone wants to still his work. My goal was to entertain people with a game, and by seeing all these web sites with it, I feel that I did a good job.
